Notes This long decorative panel, carved in bas-relief and slightly damaged at the edges, consists of five well-balanced fields, symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axis. The five fields and sides of the painting are surrounded by incised and plaited frames. The lower field is defined by lobed columns lined internally by an arch supported by floral capitals and small twisted columns, which appear prominently on a dense floral ground composed of bouquets composed of palmettes and single and double palm leaves whose ribs are skillfully carved, and on either end of which are distributed ascending stems reminiscent of the theme of the tree of life. The second field It is decorated with circular twigs attached to it, at regular intervals, with interlaced knots, single symmetrical palmettes emanating from triangular arches, and double palmettes with interconnected appendages and a convex spiral. The third field is furnished with a geometric decoration represented by a prominent octagonal band decorated with pearls, bisected by a longitudinal groove, and surmounting the composition consisting of interlacing with curved lines. And the straight, which emanates from a star square. As for the fourth field, it is similar to the second field. The fifth field features a decoration composed of fluted interlacing combined with a square of curvilinear, four-lobed stars. These octagonal forms, which are created by the sections of the lattices’ decoration, are filled at different levels with floral decorative elements that soften this geometric composition. The most prominent of them are: symmetrical palmettes emerging from triangular arches that overlap between two asymmetrical palmettes with stems that are woven between rosettes consisting of six capitals. All of these meticulously executed, graduated decorations inspired by botanical, geometric or architectural themes are present in the architectural creations and movables dating back to the Almoravid period.
