Notes
Fabrics from the first centuries of the Islamic era survive mainly in pieces, which include taraz and have their distinctive embroidery or woven patterns that give the name and title of the ruler. Such fabrics were produced in state factories and were exclusively for the use of the Caliph. This piece belongs to the Tulunid era (245-292 AH) / 868-905 AD in Egypt, where most of the remaining pieces of the style were discovered, and it is one of the largest examples, but the inscription is so divided that it is difficult to read.
