Before 721 AH, the Egyptian historian Shihab al-Din al-Nuwayri wrote a literary encyclopedia titled Nihayat al-Arab fi Funun al-Adab. In it, Al-Nuwairi compiled an overview of the literary and historical legacies of the Arab people.
