Sample Text
This is an illuminated forged ketubah presented to be written in Ancona for the marriage of widower (האלמון) Avner ben Avraham to Leʼah bat Mosheh (her first marriage); the marriage ceremony was to have occurred on Tuesday night after nightfall (thereby dating 21, though writing that it was on the third day of the week, בשלישי בשבת). The ketubah notes that Ancona is on "the rivers Mincio and Milano" (the Mincio River is in Lombardy, and the Milano is unnacounted for; the ketubah was likely created for tourists in Italy; many "Italian" ketubah forgeries were created in Iran, where a number of forged ketubahs coming from "Ancona" have survived). Written in 17 lines (text) surrounded by blessings, ketubah adornments and illuminations (ink and watercolor drawings of palms, evergreens, floral urns, patterns of flora, grapes, fish, and pomegranates, and double columns in green, red, and blue); written in a Persian cursive script (ketubah text) and a calligraphic Sephardic square script (adorning blessings and verses; text highlights and names in a square script).
