Short shot of a manuscript, content: "Šāhnāma", complete with the preface to the Bāisonqur. The preface comprises 14 pages. At the end there is the life of "Ustād Asadī Ṭūsī" 930-1020 A.D. in English based on Daulatšāh as-Samarqandī's "Taḏkirat aš-šuʿarāʾ". According to this note, Asadī is said to have written the last 4,000 verses of the Šāhnāma. Then follows a note about the use of 'guns and mortars' - cannons - around the year 930-1020 [h.q.] [1523-1612] proven from Persian poets' passages and a passage about the beauty of Firdausī's poetry from Persian Anthology. Asian.Journ.Jan. 1820 p. 14(?), Contents: Inscribed on the front: This copy of the Shâh Nâmah... was purchased at Berhampur, A.D. 1080 - On the 23rd Dec. 1813 I commenced, with Mawlawi Muḥammed Tāliaʾ of Phulvari near Patna, a regular perusal of this work; the latter collating it with other copies, and correcting each line & page, as we went on, after our morning's portion was finished; and, in this manner, we completed, on the 24th Dec. 1814, the series of epic poems it contains; - being within the space of one year. - This copy is an old and plain one, which has been rebound, and put into its present form Anno Hegira 1194 (the last 9 sheets are from a later hand than the rest and bear the date 1194) and, from the great labor bestowed upon the correction of this copy by Muḥammed Tāliaʾ, I now esteem it beyond any other, however embelished or beautiful the writing.
