Notes
Short photo of a manuscript, content: four treatises on riddle poetry. According to a Persian note on Fol. 1, a certain Ḫalīl bought this manuscript from a bookseller in Adrianople in 1145 [h.q.] [1732 or 1733]. On the last page there is a saying by Šaiḫ ʿAbd ar-Razzāq about the pious dervishes and a "fāyda" which contains an introduction and 4 verses from the Muhyī-'d-Dīn al-ʿArabī (Arabic). In many places, smaller sheets with additions are included, Fol. 3: Some Turkish verses from Kemāl-Pāšā-zāde, Fol. 4-33: "Ḥilyat al-ḥulal", Ǧāmī's treatise on riddle poetry. Written in 880 [h.q.] [1475 or 1476] (i.e. during the author's lifetime) by ʿAbd al-Ġanī al-Ḥāfiẓ aš-Širwānī, fol. 34-56: "Risāla-i Sulṭānīya dar fann-i Muʿammā", another Treatise of Ǧāmī on the same subject. The preface contains a Ġazel in 12 verses, each of which is a "Muʿammā" or word puzzle. The resolution of this enigmatic Ġazel is: Šāh Abūʾl Ġāzī Sulṭān Ḥusayn Bahādur Ḫān etc. Written in 879 [h.q.] [1474 or 1475] in the same hand as No. 1 from a copy made from the author's autograph, fol. 57-69: "Risāla-i muntaḫab Ḥilyat al-ḥulal", excerpt from the treatise "Ḥilyat al-ḥulal" also by Ǧāmī. Written in 879 [h.q.] [1474 or 1475] by the same hand, fol. 70-110: "Risāla-i farḥīya dar fann-i muʿammā", treatise called "Risāla-i Farḥīya" on riddles by Maulā Yaʿqūb Širwānī, a student of Širaf ad-Dīn ʿAlī (Yazdī, d. 850 [h.q.] [1454]). The treatise is divided into 5 sections "aṣl" on the different types of puzzles and an appendix "ẕeyl" on the solution of them. Written 880 [h.q.] [1475 or 1476] by the same, script: Nasḫī, equipment: cotton paper, old signature: Quatremère 203, BSB provenance: Étienne Quatremère (1782-1857)
