Notes
Short shot of a manuscript, content: Cosmography by Ḥamdallāh Ibn-Abū Bakr Ibn-Ḥamdallāh al-Mustaufī al-Qazwīnī (see fol. 4b 1.19), the author of the "Taʾrīḫ-i guzīda", who wrote in the year 750 [h.q.] [1349 or 1350] died. The preface lists a number of historical and geographical works that the author used. The work is divided into a "fātehe", 3 "maqāle" and 1 "ḫāteme". The "fātehe" contains a) a "muqaddimah" about the heavenly bodies and b) a "dibāča" about the inhabited earth, determination of longitude and latitude and the 7 climates. The first "maqāle" is about the 3 kingdoms of nature, the second about humans, the third, which begins on fol. 188b, about the countries. This is divided into 4 parts "qasam": 1) Mecca and Medina, 2) Iran in 20 chapters and at the end 5 "faṣl" about the rivers, springs, mountains, etc. 3) and 4) the countries except Iran. The "ḫātima" is about the oddities of different places. In the "muqaddima" the figures for which the space is left empty are missing. The copy is written in Taʿlīq, the Arabic passages in Nasḫī, script: Taʿlīq, Nasḫī, old signature: Quatremère 84, BSB provenance: Étienne Quatremère (1782-1857)
