Notes Prof. Aharon Lish (1933-), researcher of Islamic law. His research deals with the rulings in Muslim society, and in particular with marriage and divorce laws and the status of women. Lish also wrote about Muslim law in Libya, and Druze and Bedouin law, as well as the rulings of the Mahdi in Sudan in the 19th century. The archive mainly includes xerox photographs of verdicts (sigils) from the Sharia and civil courts, in the Land of Israel, Sudan and Libya, throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. A small part of the certificates are original, but most of them were photographed by Prof. Lish with permission, for the purpose of his research on Islamic law. The archive also contains some correspondence on academic subjects, research drafts and working papers that were used by Prof. Lish in his research. The archive contains photos of documents from the Sharia and civil court records in Israel, Sudan, Libya, during the 19th and 20th centuries, part of the original documents, the majority of which were photographed by Professor Aharon Leish with permission. These documents were used in his studies on the judiciary in Islam. The archive also contains some correspondence in academic matters, in addition to study drafts and reference authentication cards used by Professor Lish in his research works.
