| Notes | In the series: original documents and copies of documents from the days of the first NIL and in particular from the period of activity of the NIL underground, among them, letters from Shneerson to Aharon Ahernson, on matters related to Schneerson's work as a liaison between the NIL underground in Israel and the British intelligence headquarters in Cairo; documents that contain action plans and instructions for intelligence gathering work; Schneerson's correspondence with Raphael Abolafia, a member of the NILI underground; diaries that Schneerson kept as part of his underground activities and in the period after its exposure, in which, along with lyrical writing and philosophical reflections, there is also a record of events from the days when contact was established between NILI and British intelligence, from Schneerson's time in Egypt and the island of Cyprus, his voyages on the intelligence ship "Managam" and his meetings with Nili on Atlit beach, as well as diaries from the days of the occupation of Israel by British army forces after the underground was exposed. A large part of the entries in the diaries are in Russian. The series also includes documents related to the commemoration of the underground and its people and research on the subject. |
