Notes Transliterated title: Kandoolu Kitaaboolu IV. Contains a bilingual Arabic-Mandinka Ajami collection of numerous documents, including texts dealing with the importance of nurturing good relationships between human beings, community members, ethnic groups, and races. They include figures and formulas used for divination and recipes for various social preoccupations of people, including fame. They also include an Arabic poem and a Mandinka 12-month calendar with the days of each month. Classical Arabic knowledge alone is not sufficient to make sense of these documents. One needs dual literacy in classical Arabic and Mandinka Ajami in order to access fully the contents of such documents. Custodial history: The owner wrote some of the documents and inherited the others from his father who inherited them from his grandfather, Alphousseyni Diante. His grandfather was a Mandinka scholar who was born in Baghere. He built the first mosque in Kontecounda and served as an Imam and Quranic teacher there until his death. Extent and format of original material: 24 pages. Physical characteristics: Unbound manuscripts. Due to ink stains, some of the text may be difficult to read.
