Notes Transliterated title: Kandoolu Kitaaboolu I. Contains a collection of six small documents written in Arabic and Mandinka Ajami. Included is a biography of Prophet Muḥammad and devotional poems that trace and celebrate his origin and achievements. The other documents, which are mostly written in Mandinka Ajami, deal with a variety of topics. These include the seven saints of Pakao; the origin of the founder of Pakao and why and how he came there from Timbuktu, Mali; Pakao history, its initial leaders, first villages, and first mosques built; the names of leading female leaders of Pakao and their respective villages (which is now used to pray for women who wish to be married); and, a copy of the Mandinka calendar with the months and the days of each month that has been in use in Mandinka communities since before colonization. Custodial history: The materials are part of the owner's research archives. Extent and format of original material: 16 pages. Physical characteristics: Unbound manuscript.
