Know that the arithmetic has four places: ones, tens, hundredths, and thousands, so the limit of ones is from one to nine, and tens is from tens to ninety, and hundredths is from one hundred to nine hundred, and thousands is from one thousand to nine thousand - then the ones in the contracts, then the ones in the ones. For example, if you are told: How many twelve are in thirteen? So multiply ten by ten, then ten by three, then two by thirteen, then two by three, then add that to one hundred and fifty-six, so divide the remainder by this.
