Praise be to God who created man and inspired him with meanings... This is a summary of the science of meanings and clarification that includes the purposes of the Key to the Sciences. I named it after the name of the one to whom time gave its leadership and carried out the command of the king... — ... and wretched and majestic, for Al-Kallith, if you come to him, striking, and like the rain if you come to him seeking help, as if the compiler directed him to him.
