Notes Qur'an, handsome work, no date of writing, appears much older than date of 1883. Floral covers. Copied in naskhi, Arabic. f1: date: 11 Muharram year 1301 (c. 11 November 1883) Loose page of Western writing paper: numbered list of the 114 surahs of the Quran and 2 notes in red ink. The paper bears a watermark in the centre with a cross which may indicate that it is produced by Tweedie or another non-Muslim person. Losse page containing 19 repetitions of Quran 5:38 in Arabic (As for the thief, man or woman, cut off their hands as a requital for what they have earned. [That is] an exemplary punishment from Allah, and Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.). The page is cut and the end of the verse is missing. Loose dedication page containing the following texts: Verses 73 to 79 of Surah Al-Waqi'ah (56) which describe the Quran as a noble scripture, a well-preserved record, and touched only by the purified, emphasizing its divine and sacred nature; "A splendid gift from Iqbāl al-Dawlah to Colonel Tweedie in the month of Muḥarram, year 1301" [Hijri = November 1883 CE]. Iqbāl al-Dawlah (1848–1924 CE) was a Qajar statesman. Two birth dates and one marriage date are recorded on the first and last pages. With wooden reading stand and cloth wrapper. Tweedie requested that the book be kept on the stand, in accordance with Muslim usage. Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم الحمد لله رب العالمین Explicit: من الجنة و الناس
