Notes Hamasah of Abu Tammam, an anthology of early Arabic poems, containing 11 chapters, entitled Al-hamasah (Epic), Al-Marathi (Laments), Al-Adab (Manner), An-Nasib (Love), Al-Hija (Satire), al-Adyaf ( Hospitality), Al-madh wa al-tamaddoh (Eulogy and Eulogising), As-sifat (Description), As-Sayr wa an-Nu'as (Travel and Drowsiness), Al-Malah (Clever curiosities), Madhammat an-nisa (disapproval of women). This anthology consists of 884 poems, mostly shortened versions of longer poems. In other copies of this manuscript the sixth and seventh chapter are combined under the title of Al-madih wa al-Adyaf (Hospitality and eulogy). So in contrast with this manuscript other copies contain 10 chapters. Copied for presentation to William Tweedie. Red and black lettering. In naskhi, Arabic. The book is signed by the person who gifted the copy to Tweedie, Mohammad [Adjar Aqloub] from Mohammareh, October 1886.
