| Notes | Elegant copy of the Qur'an with fine Persian floral lacquered binding. A Persian colophon gives the patron as the Nawab Ahmad 'Ali Khan Bahadur and the copyist as Mirza Muhammad Kazim. It also gives date: AH1266/AD[1851]. Written in naskhi, Arabic. 10th Rabi' ul-avval on outside cover; Muhammad 'Ali Naghash noted as painter of cover. Covers upside down; top inscription in Persian: to obey the laws within the book, lower in Arabic - description of God (back cover) Front: description of Quran in Arabic - do not touch if not clean. 10 Rabi Al-Awwal 1266: 24 Jan 1850 Main text of the Quran, followed by 2pp of prayers for after reading the Quran, thank God for reading the book. Standard in Shiite copies of the Quran. Then colophon on last page in Persian and Arabic. Created in Isfahan (distinctive foliate motif of cover) Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم الحمدلله رب العالمین Explicit: من الجنة و الناس Colophon: الحمد لله و المنه که باقبال بی زوال و اجلال همابال نواب نامدار و کامکار فخر زمان و حاتم دوران نواب منورالدوله احمد علیخان بهادر دام اقباله العالی کاتب الحروف الکثیر الماثم مرزا محمد کاظم از تحریر و تسوید این قران مجید و فرقان حمید در سنه ۱۲۶۶ فراغت یافت |
