Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Farghani said that the early scholars of arithmetic and astrology only understood the science of the movements of astronomy and what is presented in it by diligently examining and measuring, and most of what they used as evidence of measuring instruments was the instrument called that of the throat - and that is something that does not need more than it. And if someone wanted... to make an astrolabe for a place on the earth that may be fifty to ninety parts wide, then what we have described to extract that from the single table in this chapter is what can be used as evidence for all of that, God Almighty willing.
