Notes According to the colophon, this witness is an autograph copy dated 26 Ramaḍān 755 [Oct. 14, 1354] in Madīnat Gulistān (fol. 53a). However, cf Princeton University Library, Garrett no. 66B. | Its composition and writing took place on the twenty-sixth of Ramadan of the months of the year seven hundred and fifty-five in the city of Golestan, which God Almighty protected from afflictions and infirmities. I am the guilty preacher, Kamal al-Turkani, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon Muhammad and all his good and pure family and grant him everlasting and abundant peace.
Sample Text In the name of God... Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, Creator of the heavens and the earths, who made us [in] their creation among thinkers... After that, correct eyes agree and insightful thoughts agree that the most honorable type of middle wisdom, I mean the athlete, is the knowledge marked by form that has won happiness in its world. Therefore, the conventional lunar year is less than the true solar year by ten days, twenty hours, and twelve minutes, by approximation, and this is the last available explanation. This book is a matter of urgency due to limited space, and I hope that it will be received by a servant of His Most High, to His satisfaction. I ask God Almighty to make it reach what it seeks and desires. Indeed, He is Powerful over [what] He wills, and the answer is worthy. Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds.
