Praise be to God alone. The poor Abu Al-Salah Mahmoud bin Hassan Al-Nishi says: When I traveled to visit Mr. Ahmed Al-Badawi with my sheikh and teacher, Sheikh Hassan Al-Jabarti Al-Hanafi, and some Al-Azhar scholars from Al-Shafi’i and Al-Maliki, a dispute and disagreement arose between us regarding always shortening the prayer. - ...a voluntary rak'ah with us and an obligatory one with them, and if the traveler misses four rak'ahs, he performs two rak'ahs with us and four rak'ahs with them, then it is fulfilled.
