Ali bin Abi Bakr Al-Farghani Al-Marghinani, My brothers, you asked me to create for them a book on jurisprudence that is useful for what they need in events, comprehensive of sufficient rulings... And I called it Selections of Calamities... - And if he wants to issue a fatwa based on what some people say, he must know the proof, and Muhammad said if a man’s rightness is greater than his mistakes! It is permissible for him to give a fatwa, because there are many correct ones. His correctness has prevailed, and the lesson is for the majority. Abu Bakr al-Faqih said, even if he has memorized all the books of our companions, he must learn to give fatwas until he is guided to it, and God knows best what is correct... The completion of the editing of this blessed copy occurred on the tenth day of Rabi’ al-Akhir in the year one thousand sixty.
