After the Basmalah, praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, Sustainer of the Heavens and Earths, Ruler of all creation.... Now, we have narrated on the authority of Ali bin Abi Talib.... The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “Whoever memorizes forty hadiths for my nation... — The forty hadiths were completed by our master and master Sheikh Muhyi al-Din al-Nawawi...
