Printed manuscript
The beginning of the manuscript: Glory be to Him who initiates, restores, and judges His creation according to what He wills and desires (...) And after that, these are anecdotes and news that have come to the hearts and some of which have been seen by the eyes (...) Consideration has led me to restrict them, and insight has moved me to mention them (...) And let us remember what we saw and heard, and do not dwell on past events, for that has been taken care of by others.
The end of the manuscript: And so in Egypt, its military, its pasha, and all the leaders in it wear this clothing, and so is the military of Mecca, and so in all the regions under the rule of Sultan Abdul Majeed (such and such), may God grant him victory. The innovator of this clothing is Sultan Mahmoud, may God have mercy on him, and I do not think that he did this as a rational matter, nor did he do it until a sheikh asked for a fatwa about it.
