Notes Honorable President, may peace and God’s mercy be upon you. On the eve of last Thursday, a matter happened to me that I thought it necessary to inform you of. This is that the person called Tadlawi came to my office at ten minutes past six, so I made an identification certificate and agreed with him to return to it on Saturday. At six-and-a-quarter, I left the office with a kind intention. I had an appointment with him, and between them I was in the middle of the court. I told him that I could not do that because the doctor would not accept that I was late for the appointment, and I did not feel the same way. The Caliph, Sidi Hafqafi, was calling me, so I went towards him and addressed him in a dry tone in front of the person who bore the testimony, saying, “Give this man his testimony.” This speech made me angry in this way, but I kept it within myself and thought it would be more appropriate not to argue with him for a long time, and I went on my way. It was possible for the Caliph to address me gently and not insult me in the presence of that foreigner. The matter that I would like to inform my master of is that some individuals intend to insult me and insult me because they know that I am excluded from the law. Your council has no supporter for me, and if I were one of those close to me, I would see them asking for my affection and desiring my association. The thing that opposes these people is that I take refuge in your father-in-law and I do not accept to have a president other than you because I am your official writer. And if he writes, unfortunately, I have not written anything to you for a few months. Excuse me, sir. I know that you like jokes. I said to my master that I still consider myself your writer, and I do not fear that anyone should interfere in my work except you. Yes, you assigned the matter of identification certificates. To the Caliph, Mr. Madani Al-Qabbaj alone, and Ghanni. In compliance with your order, I accept all his comments, even if they are in violation of administrative and grammatical laws. There is another matter of which you are undoubtedly aware, which is that some people are launching a movement against me and are saying things. I hope that I will submit my request, esteemed locals, and my greatest hope in you is that you will frustrate their efforts and ward off their machinations. The administration of the two Sharifs asked me, through M. Michel, whether I am in my house. I submit my request for forgiveness, as some people told her, so I answered her in the negative. My intention is not to resign except at your urging. I am at the command of my master. May God preserve him. He is a source of justice and fairness, and from it no one who seeks help can benefit from it. Peace be upon my master, may God have mercy on him on August 27, 1943, the obedient son, Ahmed Al-Sharaibi.
