Notes
Praise be to God alone. May God’s prayers and peace be upon our master, his companions, our lover, the good jurist, the servant of our earthly master, Mr. Idris al-Sarraj. May God’s peace and mercy be upon you, for the goodness of our master, may God grant him victory. Then know that some of the honorable Idrisians have a legal claim between us and them, because they attacked a place of ours and made affection in it without legal reason. I appointed an agent over them, and he pleaded with them to implement the law in this presence, so he ruled on him as an agent and he legislated. With them in the honorable work of this honor, the judge ruled that he should come by proxy of his brothers, so he went with the intention of doing so, and when he arrived at his place, he refused to return after the deputy judge here wrote to the judge’s successor in the aforementioned angle, and also their cleric, Moulay Ibrahim, wrote to your successor, and they all responded with something that was of no use. We love you, may God bless you, if you direct one of your companions to bring them all for us to the purified Sharia council here, otherwise one of them will be appointed for the opponent and he will have their agency in his hand. I am delegated here and their daughter sisters, and here their names are tied in the tora. We must ask you to appoint one of your companions to stand on this call until one of them is appointed and comes with the authority of all his brothers, male and female, because they have been tyrannical and oppressive in that blessed corner, and this is what is obligatory for you to be informed of, and for love and response, resolve and peace. On the 29th of the Hajj in the year 1278, Muhammad bin Ahmed, may God bless him, my lord Muhammad, the son of my lord Idris bin Ali and my lord. For Kabir, here he is under your hand, there in prison, paying his zakat to one of his brothers, Sidi Muhammad, Sidi Muhammad Al-Saghir, and four daughters, three of them with their husbands, and the fourth under his brothers’ sponsorship.
