Notes
Praise be to God, our beloved and eminent jurist, Sir Muhammad Al-Saffar, may God’s peace and mercy be upon you with the presence of our master, may God support him. After the gift that is addressed to the leader Barak Al-Habashi, we are pleased together from the merchants who have partners in abundance, but they asked to collect its amount here quickly from the trustees, and they do not wait for the response to arrive from those who are in this situation. It is embarrassing for them, and they are in the process of promoting the money so that they will allow. Are the frame papers addressed to the store boy, addressed to you, and we are waiting for a dancer to address them. Peace be upon you. Servant of the high position of God, Muhammad Ibn Talib, may God grant him success. Praise be to God alone, and may the peace and mercy of God be upon you. We have informed our Master, may God support him, of what he wrote to us about him regarding the frame, so he gave permission to expedite it to the merchants whose partners pay it in Tafilalat, so he ordered the trustees of the city to pay its amount to them. He will answer you with its connection. You know that the thing has reached a fault, and the harm caused to the merchants on the track is negated by making what is paid here and its price an eighth dirham, for here it is worth eight weighted dirhams and two taflalat, just as the honorable command of the governor Al-Mana’i directed at this hour soon. Accordingly, what the trustees here pay to the merchants will be an eighth dirham, and what their partners pay in taflalat will be a dirham in eight weighted dirhams as well, and then there will be no harm to them. This is what our Lord, may God grant him victory, ordered. This is what our Lord, may God grant him victory, commanded. You explained that to Al-Habashi in your letter to him, peace be upon him, on the 30th of Rabi’ Al-Thani in the year 1274, Muhammad Al-Saffar, may God grant him success.
