The beginning of the manuscript: Praise be to God alone. The writer was confused by what Tat [meaning al-Tata’i] mentioned in explaining the message when he said, “It is narrated that teaching the children the Book of God extinguishes the wrath of God,” and its text (××) means the children, the children of the believers, according to Malik’s saying, “Do not teach the children of infidels the Qur’an, and whoever teaches them is an injury to his right, his testimony, and his imamate.”
End of the manuscript: If you know this, then say that the children of infidels do not know the Qur’an and they follow the religion of their fathers in any circumstance, and God knows best. Perhaps this is sufficient in the case of the problem that appeared to our master in the words of the two aforementioned commentators. May God benefit us with them. Amen. Ubayd Rabbuh Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Tammaq wrote. May God grant him correctness in his handwriting, with its wording and letters.
