Notes
Praise be to God alone And may God’s blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad, the family of our beloved, and the place of our father, the eternal jurist, the best, the most noble, the orphan of the crown, Sidi Idris al-Sarraj, may God protect you, and may God’s peace and mercy be upon you, in the presence of our Lord, may God support him. And after that, when we got up from Fez, we camped in Wadi Maks, and they received us there, the two sheikhs Ali bin Said and Hamm Belaid, and the notables of their tribe, and they brought the excessive supplies and Ramata to the poor, and we spent the night in Have a good life and a good soul, and praise be to God. And from the next day we rode, heading with us to their place, and they exaggerated in honor and good bounties, but they fell short on our side. May God multiply their goodness, thank them for their deeds, and bless us with your presence and the perpetuation of your glory, Amen. Then the notables and nobles of the corner received us and exaggerated in honoring us, and from the next day we began the work of the Holy Dome, and when it was finished, a large group of nobles and good figures gathered and raised their hands in supplication to God. Glory be to Him, by praying for our Lord Al-Mansur Shams (amputation) and Al-Badur for the continued glory, support and victory. And you have the best of luck, and praise be to God for (amputation). The Caliph also did the obligatory thing and the archers gathered to play (amputation) the sacrifices on the honorable shrine. It was a day of celebration and joy. Praise be to God (amputation) for his blessings, and more of this is rewarded. And the honorable people of the prisoners slaughtered (amputation) the disgrace. We met in the house of one of them and Hajj Ahmed Ali Al-Arabi directed us. (Bitr) We spoke to him about this in the presence of the notables and the captain, and we expressed our desire for him and God’s intercession for them. He replied that my money was lost in the dome, and I did not have any of them or anyone else accused of anything. When the witnesses were brought, he refused and abstained altogether, saying that the accusation was against all the people of the corner, and we separated without gaining any benefit. The high and the nobles and the notables were arrogant to us, so it is expected of you to intercede for them with our Lord, supported by God, for the punishment for them has exceeded its limit. And God will help the servant as long as the servant is helping this brother of ours, and our cousin, the great Hajj, has become something close to God’s pardon, the breadth of His mercy, and his commitment to the high side of God. We would like you to entrust the trustees with the request of his family until we return, God willing, and he pays for him what he owed, since now he has left behind nothing but a young boy who knows nothing, and he has asked for your permission, but there is no turning back for his decree. I submit to your sovereignty, I love you all, and I ask for it, and tomorrow we will rise, God willing. Your love, we ask for your blessings, and may peace be upon the jurist, Sidi Abdel Wahed Azka, on the 15th of Jumada al-Ula in the year 1279, Muhammad al-Madani Bennis, may God be gracious to him.
