The beginning of the manuscript: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful (...) Imam (...) Siraj al-Din Abu al-Abbas Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Uthman al-Azdi, known as Ibn al-Banna, may God have mercy on him, said. The purpose of this book is to summarize the work of arithmetic, outline its chapters and meanings, and set its rules and principles. It includes two parts, the first on the work of known numbers and the second on the laws by which knowledge of the unknown can be reached.
The end of the manuscript: And what is excluded from it is divided by it, and the outside of the excluded is excluded from the outside of what is excluded from it, so whatever it is is outside of the division, and the lower of the two types is not divided by the higher, and it is not divided by the excluded from it. The book was completed, thank God (...) Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.
