Notes
Praise be to God alone, in the place of our dearest earthly father, Sir Idris al-Sarraj. May God’s peace and mercy be upon you with the presence of our Lord, may God grant him victory. After that, I have implemented what I wrote, that there remain other debts of various types, such as those owed by the trustees of the sale of the coins and the trustees of leather and sugar. So it appears that they must be searched, and who is responsible for them, the owners of which will be conducted in the same way as from the debtors of our class, as he made for those before them, and this matter from the guest of the trustees, which is obligatory for them, bears witness to it, but since they remained silent about it, I was afraid that our Lord would say that there was nothing left of the debts in Fez contrary to what we knew about him. If he heard other than that one day, we would not learn what is said, “We love you,” and you would say to the trustees. They count the paths and paths that connect to what is little and what is great, and the people of each place will do its accounting, and it is necessary to (cut) the money of the Muslim treasury. We will address our Lord seriously and faithfully. Likewise, the trustees of the Al-Najjarin Hotel will be present. We will be among them to know what went into it and what came out and what remains. Is it with the trustees and they will demand it, or with the merchants and they will pay it, which is in his language? And God bears witness that I intended goodness, and it is better than us talking about some people and remaining silent about others. We love you, you answer me according to what work is and must be, and with love and peace on the 4th of Shaban in the year 86 Muhammad bin Al-Madani Bennis, may God be gracious to him.
