Notes Casablanca, dated August 17, 1931, from the commissioner of the police department to the chief of works of Blida in Casablanca. I have the honor to forward to you herewith a copy of the book of the commissioner of the fifth division in the matter of Hassani, Moulay Ali Ben El Hanafi. As for what he told me, it is true, and his wealth originates from the profits he brings from the use of Buqoqqil, which belongs to Monsieur Carlotti, because he is the underground tenant of this entire road with a specific duty between them, and then he became the investigating commander. In the aforementioned street, which has a large population, he rules over the slaves, seizes them, etc., and attributes to himself the authority in which he was pursued. He was subject to a complaint issued to you because he caused the construction of a mosque on the Carlouti Street, so he opened a subscription and collected important amounts of dirhams and left it all with him, and that one of those who subscribed paid a franc, and he is the one who complained, as this amount was paid to him for a period of two full years, and he receives from the aforementioned subscription, it may amount to 30,000 francs. According to the sayings, and perhaps also he was seeking to please the pasha’s caliph and distress in the new city, and then benefit from the hidden prostitutes, as well as the commentators whom he covers. As for what is related to politics, he is not given to it, nor is it given to us, what the signature says: Carrio.
