Notes
Praise be to God alone And may God’s blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad and his family, our dearest earthly lover and the servant of our master, the most sincere, the wisest, the most righteous jurist, and the leader, Mr. Idris Al-Sarraj. May God protect you with His care and provide you with His care. May the peace and mercy of God Almighty be upon you and His blessings be upon you for the goodness of our master, may God support him and grant him victory. After the representative of the Pashdour of the French in the ports of Tangier, he asked us to write to you with the will of his Jewish bearer, Youssef Cohen Al-Jawhari. He is one of their servants, and he went to Hazrat Fez with the intention of holding an account for a dance. If he stopped at Amin to protect him as he had eaten, he was free from hitting boys or anything else, and he asked you to confine him to us. There is no problem with that, as is customary, to stop talking. The bottom line is to ask for a will from him to keep it on his mind until he fulfills his purpose and returns in safety and love and peace in the month of Rajab in the year 1284. Muhammad Barqish, may God be gracious to him.
