The beginning of the manuscript: When I left Mecca, may God protect it, on Wednesday, I went to the Levant because of the Sunan of Ibn Majah, and I met the sheikh, the learned scholar, the chief of sages and scholars, Muwaffaq al-Din, Abu Muhammad Abd al-Latif Ibn Yusuf Ibn Muhammad al-Baghdadi, may God preserve him. I knew that it was his narration, so I asked him to read it to him, and he was gracious, so I began to read it. When I reached the chapters on medicine, I asked him to explain to me its problem and show me what it contains of noble meanings and noble, mysterious rulings, so I was gracious, gracious, and correct. So he explained it and mentioned in it some of the oddities of the hadith that he had not mentioned in his great book on strange hadiths. This coincided with that when he brought forty hadiths, so I asked him for permission to isolate them with their chains of transmission to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and to mention after the hadiths his explanation, so he gave me permission to narrate them.
The end of the manuscript: And this amount, even if it is small, God has opened a door, opened a path for you, guided you in a path, revealed to you a model, and alerted you to hidden wisdom (...) and precious gems stored in types of simple words that the mind can extract (...) Glory be to Him who singles out for His mercy whom He wills and chooses messengers and people from the angels and prefers some of them over others as He wills. Indeed, He is of great bounty, great in status, and full of gratitude. I completed the forty hadiths with the praise of God and His good help, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon our Master Muhammad and his family. Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.
