Notes Title from preface (f. 4a). Romanization supplied by cataloger. Contemporary manuscript foliation begins on the recto of the second leaf bearing the main text and numbers the page openings. Folio numbers used in this record count opening of main text as f. 1b and recto of second leaf of main text as f. 2a. Layout: Single columns of 21 lines. Script: Naskh. Binding: Black leather over thin pasteboard; blind-stamped central mandorla and pendants, foliate paper doublures. Decoration: Astronomical diagrams (ff. 34a, 36a-b, 39b); rubrication. Later manuscript annotations throughout, including commentary on text, incomplete table of contents (Fihrist) (recto first flyleaf) and healing amulet below the colophon (f.82a), as well as mathematical calculations and a poem (f. 82b). A work of taxonomy, Netāyicü'l-fünūn classifies and describes sciences or branches of knowledge including history, philosophy, astronomical theory, theology, jurisprudence, juridical disagreement, Quranic exegesis, Sufism, dream interpretation, enchantment and incantations, medicine, agriculture, astronomy, and divination and ornithomancy. Includes numerous minhu records (that is, marginal glosses attributed to the text's author) in Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, and Persian. Folio 38, with text in Arabic (recto) and Ottoman Turkish (verso), added later.
