Notes The author of this treatise belonged to the Hanafi school of thought and was affiliated with the Naqshbandi ʿUwaysi Sufi order. The spiritual lineage is included at the end of the treatise. The treatise is focused on establishing the validity of tawassul (seeking intercession) through the Prophet Muhammad, which is one of the important beliefs of the Sufis and the Ahl al-Sunnah wa-al-Jamaʿah. The author presents four arguments to support this practice. On the last page, the author explains that the reason for writing this treatise was to refute some misguided scholars (ʿulamaʾ al-suʾ) who label the practices of spiritual connection (rabitah) and discipleship (muridi) as shirk (polytheism).
