In the letter, Abbas Mirza seeks to explain the circumstances of the outbreak of the war between Persia [Iran] and Russia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828], placing the blame on Russian encroachments on Persian territory and the failure of Persia to obtain redress for them. He also refers to the negotiations for an end to the war, reporting the Russian demands for the cession of Erivan [Yerevan] and Nucksivan [Nakhchivan] and reparations for the expenses incurred during the war.
