Notes This file contains correspondence regarding the alleged smuggling of silk into India by a number of Kuwaiti traders. In addition to correspondence between British officials in the Gulf and India (mainly in Karachi), the file also contains letters that were exchanged between the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in Kuwait and the country's ruler, Shaikh Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah (in Arabic with English translations) as well as correspondence with a number of the traders that were accused of smuggling. The file also contains the following: Four Certificates of Identity that were issued by the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in Kuwait to the Kuwaiti traders involved (folios 32-33, 43 and 175). An English translation of an article that appeared in the Iraqi newspaper, al-Nas on 10 September 1937 concerning the removal of visas from a number of Kuwaiti subjects (folios 63-64).
