aschkenasische Quadratschrift — brownish-black — Hebrew script → Ashkenazic → Square script — paper — Amulet for the sick Ḥaṿa bat Rivḳah A kameah written for Havah bat Rivkah, who was ill. It was prepared to drive out Satan
and to protect her from all illnesses, magical incantations, the evil eye, unusual
death and lists myriads of illnesses. The border, beginning at the top right and going
down and around is: Adonai tsavot imanu, misgav lanu, elohei ya-akov selah. Adonai
tsavot, ashreei adam boteach bach. Adonai hoshei-ah, hamelech ya-a-neinu b'yom koreinu,
ki malachav yitsaveh l'chah kolcha ??azbogah??. On the top of each side is a 4 x 4
magic square containing an acrostic of the name of God. Above and below these are
the names of angels: Adri-el, Beruchi-el, and Charshi-el on the right and Machifi-el,
G'rumphi-el, and Gavri-el on the left. In the center is Micha-el. The legs of the
star of David in the top center are made of various verses: B'shem Adonai El olam,
Adonai melech, Adnonai, malach, Adonai yimloch l'olam va-ed. U-veshem shel shiv-im
u-shtayim shemot ... The central word is Agaleh??, perhaps "I shall reveal." In each
space between the prints of the star is an acrostic of Shaddai.
