Papyrus letter: an unidentified request. Folio fragment, ink on fine light brown papyrus, mounted on paper and framed under glass, original cutting lines preserved at top and right edges, Arabic text, written with a medium thick pen perpendicular to the fibres (on recto) and parallel to the fibres (on verso), (recto:) upper right corner of a letter to an un-named addressee, very politely expressed with extensive opening greetings, probably a request or petition, (verso:) written in the same hand, and probably a fragment of the letter's external address, unsigned, Egypt, undated, c. 800-900.
