Notes
Papyrus folios from a Ḥadīth manuscript dated 267H (880-881). Two folio fragments, ink on dark brown papyrus, with (on left fragment) traces of the string which bound the original volume, mounted on paper and framed under glass, Arabic text in a practiced cursive hand with a thin pen, part of a surviving set of 3 bifolios and 1 single folio (CBL Is Pp4, 5 and 6), all fragments from the same original codex, Ḥadīth Traditions attributed to the Prophet Muḥammad on the benefits of prayer (du`ā’), compiled by Khayr, (right fragment: single folio) one half of the bifolio that originally formed the book’s cover, with title (verso) stating the author as Khayr, noting that Khayr obtained his text via his teacher Khālid ibn Yazīd in the year 267H (880-881), with three historical anecdotes perpendicular to the writing direction, added later, (left fragment: bifolio) middle part of the bifolio only, Egypt, dated 267H, 880-881.
