Notes History of the world-adorning Shāh Ismā`īl (Tārīkh-e jahānārā-ye Shāh Ismā`īl). The dramatic military successes of Ismā`īl I (r. 1501-1524) were remembered for generations, in works of formal history as well as in popular story-telling tradition. One of a number of similar anonymous histories, this manuscript was made in 1683 in Isfahan, under the second-last of the Safavid shahs, Sulaymān (reigned 1666–1694). Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, 245 folios, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with title heading (sarlawh, fol. 1v), 18 paintings (fols. 20r, 47v, 77r, 89v, 119v, 136v, 149r, 152v, 160r, 162v, 167v, 176v, 191r, 193r, 195r, 197v, 199v, 215r), History of the world-adorning Shāh Ismā`īl (Tārīkh-e jahānārā-ye Shāh Ismā`īl bahādur khān), anonymous, account of the Safavid dynasty from Ismā`īl I (r. 1501-1524) to `Abbās II (r. 1642-1666) copied by Muḥtashim Iṣfahānī (colophon fol. 245v), Isfahan, Iran, dated Monday 16 Safar1094H, 14 February 1683.
