Ottoman book of prayers. This small book presents an arrangement of different prayers and Qur'an verses for specific occasions. It also includes a complex series of facing-page images, showing scenes of sacred places, talismanic diagrams and holy words. Codex, ink, colours and gold, 132 folios, Arabic and Turkish text in naskh script, with labelled scenes, tables and talismanic diagrams of holy places, objects and signs throughout, Compendium of prayers, as follows: Prayer on the beautiful blessed [names of God] (Du`ā-yi jamīl-e mubārak, fol. 1v), Prayer on God's powerful names (Du`ā min ism al-a`ẓam, fol. 4r), quoted verses and suras from the Qur'ān (fols. 9r-73v), litanies (ṣalwat) in Arabic to the Prophet Muḥammad (fols. 74r-86v), prayers in Turkish to the Prophet (fol. 86v), inscribed diagrams on facing pages for God and Muḥammad (fols. 90v-91r), the Prophet's seal (muhr al-nubawa, fols. 91v-92r), the Prophet's ḥilye (fols. 92v-93r), `Alī and Ja`far al-Ṣādiq (fols. 93v-94r), topographical scenes of the holy sanctuary in Jerusalem and the Ka`ba in Mecca (fols. 94v-95r), and the Prophet's tomb and home in Medina (fols. 95v-96r), labelled images of the Prophet's banner (liwā al-ḥamd), rosary (tasbīḥ), tooth-stick (miswāk) and battle standards (fols. 96v-97r), rose-bush (naming his close Companions and family on the leaves, fol. 97v), and palm-tree (together with the Ṭūbā tree growing in paradise, and a list of the eight paradise gardens, fol. 98r), prayers for specific occasions (fols. 98v-119v), and the Prophet's genealogy (fol. 118v), copied (and possibly also arranged) by Muḥammad Amīn al-Rushdī, guardsman (tabardār) of the Old Palace (Eski Saray), known as Hāfiẓ al-Qur'ān of Edirne, student of Ḥājjī Muḥammad of Kütahya, Istanbul, Turkey, dated 1212H, 1798.
