Juz’ 4 of a Mamluk Qur’an. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, blind-tooled leather bookbinding, 37 folios, Arabic text in rayhan, thuluth and eastern kufic scripts, with illuminated double frontispiece (fols. 1v-2r), opening page (chahar-lawh, fols. 2v-3r), sura heading (fol. 27v), marginal markers and verse counters throughout, Juz’ 4 of the Qur’an (Suras 3:92 – 4.23, with gaps), from a 30-volume set possibly commissioned for Mamluk sultan al-Ashraf Sha`bān (r. 1363-1377) or his mother Khawand Baraka (d. 1373), illumination attributed to Ibrāhīm al-`Āmidī, calligraphy attributed to `Alī ibn Muḥammad al-Muktib al-Ashrafī, unsigned, Cairo, Egypt, c. 1370-1375.
