Bibliographic identification and control in organizing information is very important for the user's access to the resource. The first aim of cataloging should be to provide users with efficient access to information resources while making accurate and efficient bibliographic descriptions. Nowadays, with the new approaches in cataloging, it is not enough to process only the bibliographic identifier, and the necessity of creating consistent, strong and functional library catalogs by effectively and clearly defining all kinds of information sources where information is recorded has emerged. In order to prevent metadata inconsistencies, which is one of the biggest problems encountered in organizing information, the correct application of controlled terms (authority index, classification schemes, term lists, etc.) is very important for library catalogs. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of controlled terms and draw attention to their necessity. The hypothesis of this study was determined as "the use and applicability of nationally controlled terms in library catalogs are not standard". The scope of the study includes schemes such as authority files, classification schemes, term lists and subject headings as controlled terms. In this context, in the study, library catalogs with different library management systems, classification schemes and cataloging standard applications were examined and the situation was evaluated, and the identified problems and suggestions were shared.
