This study aims to describe the typological process of the built environment in Zaragoza, taking into account the conditions that led to the emergence of different building types. The city of Zaragoza is thought to have been founded by the Roman Empire in 14 BC as a military colony on the site of a Celtic-Iberian city called Saldube. Current theoretical reconstructions draw on archaeological findings to place the first-century urban fabric of Caesar Augusta on a grid plan of Roman-type courtyard houses. Within the scope of the study, a typological plan of the city was prepared using the building surveys prepared for the Zaragoza Institute of Geography and Cadastre in 1911, and in line with this plan, the relevant region was analyzed as an organism that emerged from the historical process (Strappa, Carlotti, Camiz, 2017) by examining the archaeological data. As a first step to determine the outlines of the changes that the urban fabric has undergone, the typological process of the row houses in the walled area of the city was analyzed and their relationship with other existing building types was revealed.
