Notlar	The original title is given in the preface, but has been washed out by a water-stain (leaf 2 recto). The conjectured title, as above, has been suggested by the reference on leaf 72 recto to "qarābādhīnī al-kabīr alladhī dawwantuh ..." Perhaps this has some connection with the Baḥr al-jawāhir, a similar pharmacopoeia in Arabic with occasional Persian, by Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-ṭabīb al-Harawī (Berlin catalog, 6239; although the quotations given there do not seem to agree with this work; or is the Baḥr al-jawāhir the larger pharmacopoeia, "al-Qarābādhīn al-kabīr," referred to?). Incipit: "Bismillāh al-Raḥmān al-Raḥīm. al-Ḥamdu lillāh al-mubdiʻ lil-mujarradāt, al-fāṭir [lil-mujassamāt, al-mukhtariʻ lil-mufradāt, al-khāliq lil-murakkabāt, al-mūjid] li-mawādd al-kāʼināt wa-ṣuwar al-mawjūdāt ... Ammā baʻd, fa-yaqūlu [...] Muḥammad al-mulaqqab bi-ʻAlāʼ al-Dīn al-Ṭabīb: Lammā kāna al-insān al-makhlūq ashraf al-makhlūqāt ..." البداية: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم. الحمد لله المبدع للمجردات، الفاطر [للمجسمات، المخترع للمفردات، الخالق للمركبات، الموجد] لموادّ الكائنات وصور الموجودات ... أما بعد، فيقول [...] محمد الملقب بعلاء الدين الطبيب: لما كان الإنسان المخلوق أشرف المخلوقات ..." Modern (18th century?) calligraphic naskhī, in gold, red, and black. Islamic binding, paper covered, with flap. Colophon: "Naskh qarmah sī qāʻidah sīlah Chamshīr Ḥāfiẓ Ṣāliḥ Afandīnik khaṭṭīdar." الخاتمة: "نسخ قرمه سى قاعده سىله چمشىر حافظ صالح افندىنک خطّىدر." In Arabic, with occasional lapses into Persian.
