Notlar Collection (majmū`a) of Persian poetry, by Amīr Ḥusaynī (d. 1318), Awḥadī Marāgha’ī (d. 1338) and Salmān Sāvajī (d. 1376) This manuscript was originally to contain five Persian poems, as listed in the illuminated rosette on the first page. Three poems now remain, composed by different poets of the fourteenth century, all in the fashionable romantic genre of "Dah-nāma" (Ten Letters) in which lovers communicate only via letter. There are six illustrations, on folios now detached from the codex, also in the Chester Beatty Persian collection (CBL Per 149.4, Per 149.24, Per 149.39, Per 149.58, Per 149.78, Per 149.96). The manuscript has been rearranged more than once: the first page is dedicated to prince Abū Sa`īd (r. 1451-69), who ruled the diminishing Timurid empire from Herat. A century later, the anthology was mounted in new gold-painted borders, at the Shaybanid court in Bukhara. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, 104 folios, re-mounted in gold-painted borders, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with illuminated medallion (dedication and text contents, fol. 1r) and 3 section headings (sarlawh, fols. 1v, 45v, 65v), Collection (majmū`a) of Persian poetry by three different writers (originally intended to contain five, as was listed but later deleted on 1r), (1: fols. 1v-45r) Thirty Letters (Sī-nāma, also called Love Letters, `Ishq-nāma) by Amīr Ḥusaynī Fakhr al-Sādāt (d. 1318, Herat), (2: fols. 45v-65r) Ten Letters (Dah-nāma, also called Manṭiq al-`Ushshāq) by Rukn al-Dīn Awḥadī Marāgha’ī Isfahānī (d. 1338, Maragha), (3: fols. 65v-104r) Book of Separation (Firāq-nāma) by Salmān Sāvajī (d. 1376), manuscript with later phases of re-margining and other adjustments, some folios are of a different paper type, stated produced for the treasury (khizāna) of Timurid ruler Abū Sa`īd (r. 1451-69, named on dedication fol. 1r, smudged with later ink seal impression), decorated borders (throughout) added later by order of Shaybanid ruler `Abd al-Azīz (r. 1540-1549, re-decoration stated in additional note to fol. 1r), inscribed and dated (spurious later addition, fols. 44v and 110v) as copied by Sulṭān `Alī al-Mashhadī al-Kātib (d. 1520) in Herat in 880H (1475-1476), the main text, illumination (fols. 1, 65v only) and illustrations probably produced in Herat, Afghanistan, c. 1450, with replacement borders added Bukhara, Uzbekistan, c. 1540-1549.
