Double frontispiece, from The Treasure of the Khwarazmshah (Zakhira-yi Khwarazmshahi), by Zayn al-Din al-Jurjani. These two folios introduce a medical encyclopaedia, and are now detached from the rest of the manuscript (also in this museum, In 30). The book was produced in Golconda, and has been associated with the court of Sultan Ibrahim Qutb-Shah (r. 1550-1580), although he is not mentioned by name. Filled with angels, red dragons and simurgh birds, the double frontispiece presents an elaborate illuminated frame around the opening text, which is written on a gold ground.
