Fragment of treatise on the calculation of inheritance shares (علم الفرائض) by Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd Allāh al-Faraḍī al-Baṣrī (أبو الحسين محمد بن عبد الله الفرضي البصري; d. 1011; see ff. 107v, line 2, transcribed below), known as Ibn al-Labbān (ابن اللبان; see ff. 107v, note in right-hand margin).

قال الشيخ أبو الحسين محمد بن عبد الله الفرضي البصري
دعاني قول النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم تعلّموا الفرائض فإنّها من دينكم
وإنّه نصف العلم وأوّل ما ينزع من أمّتي وينسى ...
Ends (f. 110v, lines 16-18 [the final line is only semi-legible due to soiling and damage to the lower margin]):
ومن أعتق عبد لو مات عن مدير فله ولاؤه يرثه إذا لم يخلف عصبة ولا
ذا رحم فإن كان ذا رحم كان أحق من المولى في قول بن مسعود
[...] ما ضل عن فرض ذوي السهام وأحق ...
