A book of homilies, containing a commentary on the Qurʼān and the lives of Muḥammad, his Companions and other distinguished personalities, specially composed for the use of preachers and teachers. | Ms. codex., Title from title page (fol. 1a)., Marginal and interlinear notes. Table of contents (fol. iiib-ivb). On title page are a note giving the date of the authorʼs death, two verses of poetry extolling the value of the book, and other inscriptions. Title also on label on slipcover., Collation: Paper ; fol. iv (later paper) + 225 ; quires signed: al-thānī-al-thālith wa-al-ʻashrūn ; foliation skips from 20 to 31 ; catchwords ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals., Layout: 33 lines per page., Description: Rubricated ; some vowel signs ; watermarks (later preliminary leaves only: coat-of-arms, eagle) ; MS in fair condition; fol. 2-3 and colophon defective with some loss of text., Ḥājjī Khalīfah, Kashf al-ẓunūn (1835-58), IV, p. 291., Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم صلى الله على سيدنا محمد واله وصحبه وسلم. الحمد لله الذي جعل العلم زيناً للدين ... وهداية للمهتدين ..., Colophon: ... فرغ منه کاتبه لنفسه ولمن شاء الله ... محمد ابن احمد ... صاحبها | Later type II (with flap) binding in red leather.
