Ms. 548 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.207, copied by Mehmet bin Mehmet Bey (Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad) with transcription completed 1 Jumādá II 848 [ca. 15 September 1444]. Accompanying materials: a. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda -- b. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover and spine label "IL 318" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap, though now lost) ; board linings in untinted laid paper ; upper and lower covers bear tooled central binding ornament consisting of a six-pointed star inscribed within a circle (Weisweiler class. W 25-27) with a second six-pointed star inscribed within the outer star, as well as simple cornerpieces and a tooled border in a repeating knot-work stamp flanked by tooled fillets ; sewn in heavy cream thread, two stations ; worked endbands in blue, green and red, significant losses to headband and tailband ; overall in poor condition with flap lost, significant moisture damage, shrinkage, abrasion, staining, lifting and losses of leather (particularly at board edges), delamination of boards, gatherings detaching from spine, etc. ; repair to spine in brown leather ; housed in box for protection. Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines (vertical) possibly grouped in threes with 8-9 mm. between chains and 42-45 mm. between groups (see p.176, etc.) ; quite cloudy formation, laid and chain lines often rather indistinct, thick and sturdy, well-burnished to glossy ; staining, tears, and pest damage. Decoration: Abbreviation symbols and some glosses rubricated ; section headings set off in a large, bold script and occasionally accented with red ink. Script: Naskh ; elegant Turkish hand in a narrow line ; virtually serifless with slight effect of tilt to the left (occasionally more exaggerated and accompanied by slight descent of words to the basline), curvilinear descenders, pointing in distinct or conjoined dots, and some free-assimilation of letters, partially vocalized, point of final nūn set deep in bowl ; section headings in large, bold, seriffed script reminiscent of tawqīʻ. Layout: Written in 15 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: V-1 (9), 8 V(89), IV (97), IV-1 (104) ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present though nearly cut off or obscured in many places ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes some inserts). Colophon: "Scribal," rectangular, reads "تمت بعون الله وحسن توفيقه في غرة جمادى الاخر من شهور سنة ثمان واربعين وثمانمائة وتمامه على يد العبد الضعيف المذنب المحتاج الى رحمة اللطيف فانه يعطي الرحمة والمغفرة لمن طلبه حيث قال ادعوني استجب لكم محمد بن محمد بك غفر الله له ولوالديه ... وحسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل نعم المولى ونعم النصير" Explicit: "ثم قسم الباقي على سهام من بقي منهم وهذا اخر مجمع البحرين وملتقى النيرين ... والله المشكور على افاضة نعمه والمسؤؤل خاتمته السعادة بفضله وكرمه الحمد لله رب العالمين والصلوة والسلام على خير البرية محمد واله اجمعين" Incipit: "الحمد لله جاعل العلماء انجما للاهتداء زاهرة واعلاما للاقتداء طاهرة ... اما بعد فهذا كتاب يصغر للحفاظ حجمه ... يحوي مختصر الشيخ ابي الحسن القدوري ومنضومة [منظومة] الشيخ ابي حفص النسفي رحمهما الله فانهما بحران زاخران وهذا مجمع البحرين وهما النيران المشرقان وهذا ملتقى النيرين احدهما يهدي الى فقه المذهب الذي هو من اشرف المطالب والاخر يعرف الخلاف بين المذاهب ..."
